Exciting News! The Hybrid Return to Campus to Begin Soon.

Oct. 7, 2020

Dear DeMille Families,

We have some exciting news!  The Westminster School District is beginning to return to in-person instruction.  In order to ensure everyone’s safety, the process will be slow and gradual. The first phase is called, “Hybrid” instruction.  Our first students to return to in person instruction will be our Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, and Kindergarten during the week of October 19.

If your child is enrolled in our hybrid program, they will have both in-school and online instruction.  Our students will be divided into two cohorts, A and B.  These cohorts will allow us to divide the students into smaller groups to ensure proper safety and social distancing. For the most part, students whose last names begin with the letters A-M are assigned Cohort A,  and those students whose last names begin with the letters N-Z are assigned to Cohort B.   Cohorts will be created to keep family members together as much as possible.  There will be some exceptions and variations across the grade levels as a result of numbers and staffing. Unfortunately, these changes may result in a change of teacher.

The other model of instruction is called “Virtual” instruction.  In the virtual model, your child will continue to learn online five days a week.  Our students in virtual instruction may also be divided into two cohorts, A and B, depending on numbers and staffing.  Enrollment in the in-person(hybrid) or virtual(online), has been determined by the choice that parents indicated on the return to school commitment forms.

All Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten students will have virtual instruction on Mondays. All TK and Kindergarten students enrolled in the hybrid program will come to campus four days a week, Tuesday-Thursday.  Cohort A will be in the morning (8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.), and Cohort B will be in the afternoon (11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.).

Students in first through sixth grade will follow their current virtual schedule until the week of Oct. 26.  All first through sixth grade students who have chosen the hybrid, in person learning model will return to campus the week of Oct. 26.  All first through sixth grade students will have virtual instruction on Mondays. Students in the hybrid program in these grade levels will have two days of learning on campus and two days of working independently.  Students assigned to Cohort A will have in person instruction on campus on Tuesday and Wednesday (8:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m.) and Cohort Cohort B will have in person  instruction on Thursday and Friday (8:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m.).  The attached schedules will give you an idea of what the student’s instructional day will look like.

Attached are the updated WSD Hybrid and Virtual Schedules.  We are making every effort to adhere to these schedules and timeframes.  There may be some adjustments in the instructional blocks to accommodate the dual language immersion schedule, virtual students, and a safe, socially distanced brain break.  Details on specific grade levels, rosters, staffing, and schedules are being finalized and will be provided soon.

This is a lot of information to take into account.  In upcoming posts I will share more information about health and safety protocols, information sessions, and more.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Villanueva
